| The relationship between HIV and child abuse, exploitation and neglect is well documented. Children affected by HIV face a range of risks due to the loss of their parents and caregivers, stigma and discrimination. In addition, poor child protection safeguards within programmes intending to mitigate the impact of HIV may also place vulnerable children at further risk. This workshop will build the skills of leaders within the HIV field to develop, strengthen and implement effective child safeguarding policies within HIV programmes. By the end of the workshop, participants will understand the rationale for safeguarding children, analyze their organizations' existing safeguarding measures, and outline preliminary action plans for strengthening measures. The workshop will make use of well-established child safeguarding standards and tools developed by Keeping Children Safe (KCS), and refined as part of safeguarding training delivered for select President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) partners in Africa. |
