| A global workforce crisis has hindered access and quality of health care services in low-income countries hit hardest by HIV/AIDS. Shortages of nurses and midwives are particularly problematic in sub-Saharan Africa where only 103 nurses and midwives are available for every 100,000 people. In this session, ICAP Director Wafaa El-Sadr will share how ICAP is addressing the global workforce crisis by working with in-country partners to strengthen nursing and midwifery professions. Dr. El-Sadr will then moderate an expert panel who will discuss solutions to the crisis. Panelists include Dr. Jennifer Dohrn, program director of the ICAP Nurse Capacity Initiative; Dr. Address Malata, principal of the Kamuzu College of Nursing; Deborah Parham Hopson, associate administrator for HIV/AIDS in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration; and Deborah von Zinkernagel, principal deputy global AIDS coordinator in the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator. |
