The rise in new infections since 2001 has put the MENA region among the top two regions in the world with the fastest growing HIV epidemics. A number of women living with HIV in MENA established a group of peers -MENAROSA- to address their challenges and document their situation. This idea was supported by Ford Foundation and technically managed by UNAIDS MENA team. Results of a qualitative study in 10 countries of the region, structured around quality treatment, livelihood, community environment, sexual and reproductive health and stigma brings remarkable insight to WLHIV situation. the identified challenges include the silence barrier and stigma and discrimination facing WLHIV which increase their vulnerability and complicate HIV prevention efforts. Women are requesting effective legislations to protect their rights and comprehensive mechanisms to address the economic needs of them. Quality treatment and addressing sexual health needs are among their list of priorities.
